The belief that an intelligent, although unseen energy, flows throughout the universe and connects all living things is ancient wisdom; and held worldwide by many cultures.  The existence of an unseen life force energy and its direct connectedness to the quality of health has been verified by recent scientific experiments, and a growing number of medical doctors and hospital policy makers are considering the role it plays in the functioning of the immune system and the healing process.

Reiki is a natural adjunct to traditional hypnotherapy for pain management, stress reduction and the stimulation of the body's immune system.  The Japanese word, Reiki means "universal life force energy".  It is a powerful, yet gentle, method of healing through opening, clearing and re-balancing one's energy system.

Reiki is a holistic energy therapy. More and more hospitals, as well as  chiropractors, nurses, massage therapists, hypnotherapists, and other health care providers are discovering the value of adding this ancient and effective modality to their practices.

Reiki treatments can reduce the negative side effects of traditional drug and radiation therapies and promotes the effectiveness of treatments. The healing of emotional traumas can be accelerated with Reiki.  Anything benefited by improved internal energy flow, can be improved through the use of Reiki.

Amazingly simple to learn, Reiki is both taught to and transferred to the student by the Reiki Master. It's not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development or religious beliefs and, therefore, is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

Reiki healing is  similar to Therapeutic Touch , a "hands on" healing technique,  with the exception that with Reiki you need to receive sacred attunements through your Reiki Master (teacher).  Reiki, unlike  "hands on" healing, need not include touching to transfer the energy. The hands may be held several inches away from the the receiver.  The mutual intention of both giver and receiver is far more important than actual physical touch.  The hands are held over the chakras (or seven energy centers of the receiver), but are not restricted to the chakra energy centers.

In order for the Reiki healing to occur, the receiver must accept responsibility for his or her own healing and take an active part in it. Therefore, the Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of... or passing of... the Reiki energy.  It is an exchange of mutual intention.  It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself.
